Merced River Hatchery

Located near the town of Snelling in Merced County, the Merced River Hatchery is a Chinook salmon facility along the Merced River. A little tricky to find, the Merced River Hatchery is open to the public and offers views of the Merced River and wildlife that utilize this river ecosystem. The fish ladder normally opens around October 1.

Directions: From Merced head north on Highway 59. Turn right onto Snelling Road. Turn left onto Robinson Road. Turn left onto gravel canal bank prior to crossing over it. Follow canal road about 3 miles following signs to the Merced River Hatchery. MAP(opens in new tab)

The fish ladder usually opens to spawning fish October 1. Public restrooms are available.
