FIC-SF Things to Know

What to know about Fishing Clinics

  • Fishing clinics teach beginner level skills to new anglers. Learning stations include safety, ethics, knots, casting rigging and how to keep our waterways clean.
  • Participants must complete the clinic to receive tackle, bait and to fish in the reserved area. It generally takes about 45 minutes to complete the clinic.
  • All equipment (rods and tackle) is provided and participants must use provided equipment.
  • This is a family event and not designed for organized groups.
  • These events are for children ages 5 to 15 years of ages. Adults will not be allowed to fish.
  • There is no fee, although many parks do charge a parking or entry fee.
  • These events are staffed almost entirely by volunteers.
  • A California's Drivers license is required to check out a fishing rod. A maximum of two rods will be lent per adult.
  • All California fishing regulations, local and park ordinances apply. Daily catch limits may be lower than state limits.
  • Clinic participants are expected to watch over and control their fishing rods, cast in a safe manner and act in a safe and courteous manner to others.
  • Registration is from 8 AM to 10 AM while participants may fish until 11:30.
  • To provide a high quality and safe experience, a maximum number of participants is determined for each event. (Generally, this is 150, but it may be lower depending on the event.) Only the maximum number of participants will be registered on a first come-first served basis.
  • Parents or adults must remain with and supervise their children at all times including during the clinic.
  • Clinic staff reserves the right to move anglers to another part of the lake.
  • Please bring protection from the weather and snacks.
